Chinese New Year is a time for fresh beginnings, decluttering, and preparing the home for the year ahead. In 2026, the Year of the Horse symbolises movement, energy, and progress making it the perfect time to rethink how your home supports daily living.

This festive season, IKEA Malaysia is introducing practical Feng Shui insights in collaboration with Joey Yap Consulting Group. The initiative focuses on simple, affordable home improvements that promote better flow, brighter spaces, and more functional living without major renovations.

Start Strong at the Entrance with Clear Space and Clear Mind

In Feng Shui, the entrance represents the “mouth of energy” and it sets the tone for the entire home. During Chinese New Year, when guests frequently visit, a tidy and organised entryway creates a welcoming first impression.

Simple additions such as compact shoe racks, wall hooks, or a small bench can help reduce clutter while keeping daily routines organised. By cleaning the entrance, homeowners can create smoother movement and a calmer atmosphere from the moment they step inside.

Living Room Harmony for Festive Gatherings

The living room plays a central role during Chinese New Year, as it becomes the space for reunion dinners, conversations, and celebrations. According to Feng Shui principles, balanced layouts and comfortable seating arrangements encourage harmony and positive interaction.

IKEA highlights the importance of adaptable furniture such as moveable stools and appropriately sized sofas to accommodate both lively gatherings and quiet rest. Lighting also plays a major role. Layered lighting including ceiling lights, floor lamps, and decorative lanterns helps to create warmth while making the space feel open and inviting.

Create Flow, Not Obstacles

In the Year of the Horse, movement matters. The way people move through their homes influences comfort and functionality. Clear pathways between shared spaces, such as the living and dining areas, promote smoother routines and better energy flow.

Decluttering walkways, using storage solutions placed neatly against walls, and incorporating potted plants can revitalise stagnant corners. Curtains and blinds also help regulate light allowing brightness during the day while ensuring restful darkness at night.

Learn More Through IKEA Feng SHui Sharing Sessions

To help Malaysians apply these principles in practical ways, IKEA is hosting Feng Shui sharing sessions in collaboration with Joey Yap Consulting Group. These sessions combine traditional Feng Shui knowledge with modern interior solutions to demonstrate how small adjustments can create meaningful improvements at home.

Customers can also look forward to festive activities, including calligraphy sessions at selected outlets, mascot appearances, and digital gamification experiences. IKEA Family members who spend RM388 and above in a single receipt may also stand a chance to win prizes, subject to terms and conditions.

The sessions and activities will run across IKEA stores nationwide until 15 February 2026. More details are available at ikea.my.

A Fresh Start for the Year Ahead
